Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) confirms its academic excellence and international attractiveness by ranking 130th among European universities in the 2026 edition of the QS World University Rankings Europe, published on 28 January. At the national level, UGA ranks 6th among French universities and holds 1st place among French universities outside the Paris region.
This leading international ranking, which assesses scientific quality, graduate employability and international openness, places UGA among 958 European universities from 42 countries, a significant increase compared with the previous edition (+274 institutions).

A key benchmark for student guidance

As students are currently in the process of reflecting on and submitting their applications (until 16 March 2026) on the Mon Master platform, this result represents a strong indicator of the quality of the programmes offered at UGA. The international recognition enjoyed by the university, both among academics and employers, is a guarantee of academic success and professional integration for future graduates.

In a context of increasing competition between European higher education institutions, UGA’s position in the QS Europe Rankings 2026 highlights its ability to offer a world-class education and research environment, supported by strong international momentum and close ties with the socio-economic world.

A leading French university in Europe

France has 60 institutions featured in the 2026 ranking, compared with 49 in 2025, making it the 6th most represented country in Europe, behind the United Kingdom, Turkey, Germany, Italy and Spain. Within this highly competitive academic landscape, UGA stands out as the leading university in its region, confirming its driving role in higher education and research.

A methodology based on academic, professional and international criteria

The QS World University Rankings Europe is based on a methodology unchanged from 2025, incorporating in particular:
  • Academic reputation (30%)
  • Employer reputation (15%)
  • Research impact of publications (citations, productivity)
  • International research network
  • Employment outcomes
  • Teaching capacity
  • Internationalisation of students and academic staff
  • Commitment to sustainability
These indicators reflect the overall performance of universities, from research quality and student success to employability and international engagement.
