Sustainable planet and society

Conciliating the economic, social and environmental impact of human activities is a key challenge for the future of our planet. It requires a systemic approach integrating many disciplinary fields, ranging from technology to philosophy.
Université Grenoble Alpes has the academic expertise and the socio-economic environment required to successfully tackle major issues in this field, such as energy transition, climate changes, natural risks, eco-manufacturing and social and individual behaviors.
In the field of energy, we will notably focus on smart low-carbon energy systems. This work will benefit from an industrial environment that includes leading companies and scores of dynamic SMEs. It will be boosted by our participation in the pole Tenerrdis, the KIC Innoenergy, Institut Carnot Énergies du Futur and ITE SuperGrid Institute. These are multidisciplinary problems involving geosciences, ecology, social sciences and humanities.

Université Grenoble Alpes's work will notably build on our six existing Labex in these fields (CEMAM, LANEF, OSUG@2020, TEC21, FOCUS, ENIGMASS).

Eco-manufacturing, which requires clean processing techniques, material design optimization and life cycle assessment, will entail collaborative work in fields including chemical engineering, chemistry, material science and engineering, industrial engineering and applied economy. The recently launched KIC Raw Materials will be an important asset for this project.
