Living Well, Aging Well : UGA and McMaster University join forces to talk about aging

Summer school Headlines, International
July 16, 2025 - July 20, 2025
How Can We Age Better Tomorrow? That was the central question explored at the Living Well, Aging Well (Bien Vivre Bien Vieillir) Summer School, hosted by Université Grenoble Alpes from June 16 to 20 in Archamps. Researchers and international students came together to share perspectives on aging and the challenges it brings.

McMaster University as a Guest of Honor

The McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA) made a strong impression at the 2025 edition of the BVBV Summer School. Maheshwar Panday, a PhD student at McMaster, presented his research in French for the very first time. He highlighted the value of the school’s interdisciplinary approach—ranging from history to neuroscience—describing the experience as both formative and inspiring. It gave him the chance to rethink the way he communicates on his research and to build a strong peer network.

Two McMaster faculty members also enriched the program. Dr. Rebecca Ganann, attending in Archamps, shared her expertise on citizen science and the EMBOLDEN project, emphasizing the quality of exchanges with students. Joining online, Dr. Vanessa de Rubeis spoke about the epidemiology of obesity and stress across the life course, sparking lively discussion and many questions.

Strong Scientific and Human Impact

This collaboration reflects the shared ambition of Université Grenoble Alpes and McMaster University to strengthen their partnership and provide young researchers with an international, scientific, and human-centered training experience—one that addresses some of the key challenges of tomorrow.
