Université Grenoble Alpes ranks each year in the Top 100-250 group of the best world universities in all major international rankings, and is in the Top 10 of French higher education institutions.
Shanghai 2025 - Global ranking
Published since 2003 by Jiao Tong University, the Shanghai ranking list annually ranks the world's top universities according to six criteria, including the number of publications in the two scientific journals – Nature and Science – the number of citations of these articles in referenced scientific journals, and the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals awarded to students and staff of the university.

Université Grenoble Alpes is once again in the spotlight this year, placing in the top 200 of the prestigious ranking. At the national level, UGA is ranked 6th among French universities and 2nd outside the Paris region, alongside Aix-Marseille University and the University of Montpellier, following Paris-Saclay University, PSL, Sorbonne University, Paris Cité University, and the University of Strasbourg.

Shanghai thematic ranking 2023
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects includes more than 4,000 universities in 54 disciplines covering 5 major fields: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences.
Université Grenoble Alpes has confirmed its position in the Shanghai 2023 thematic rankings, being ranked in 33 of the 55 disciplines assessed.
In 13 disciplines, it is in the top 100 of the world's best universities, including 5 in the top 50 and 2 in the top 20. This makes it the fourth French university in terms of the number of disciplines ranked in the top 100.

QS World University Thematic Rankings 2025
The QS World University Rankings by Subject ranks the world's top universities in five broad areas covering 51 subjects. These rankings aim to help prospective students identify the world's best universities in their chosen field, in answer to the high demand for comparisons by subject.
In the 2025 edition of the QS World university rankings by subject, which assesses the international reputation and scientific quality of higher education and research establishments worldwide, Université Grenoble Alpes continues to progress, being ranked in 35 of the 55 disciplines evaluated. This puts it in 4th place among French universities after the Parisian universities PSL, Sorbonne Universités and Paris-Saclay, and in 1st place among regional universities. It also improved its ranking in geology and geophysics, reaching 22nd and 23rd place worldwide respectively.
