Université Grenoble Alpes in international rankings

Université Grenoble Alpes ranks each year in the Top 100-250 group of the best world universities in all major international rankings, and is in the Top 10 of French higher education institutions.

Shanghai 2023 - Global ranking

Published since 2003 by Jiao Tong University, the Shanghai ranking list annually ranks the world's top universities according to six criteria, including the number of publications in the two scientific journals – Nature and Science – the number of citations of these articles in referenced scientific journals, and the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals awarded to students and staff of the university.

Université Grenoble Alpes has maintained its position in the top 150 of the Shanghai 2023 ranking of the world's best universities. On a national level, Université Grenoble Alpes also maintained its position as 5th French university and 1st outside the Île-de-France (greater Paris), alongside the University of Strasbourg, behind the 4 Parisian institutions: Université Paris Saclay, PSL, Sorbonne Université and Université Paris Cité.

Shanghai thematic ranking 2022

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects includes more than 4,000 universities in 54 disciplines covering 5 major fields: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, Social Sciences.

Université Grenoble Alpes has strengthened its position in the Shanghai 2022 thematic ranking. It is now in the top 100 of the world's best universities in 15 disciplines, including five in the top 50 and one in the top 20.

QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023

The QS World University Rankings by Subject ranks the world's top universities in five broad areas covering 51 subjects. These rankings aim to help prospective students identify the world's best universities in their chosen field, in answer to the high demand for comparisons by subject.

In the 2023 edition of the QS World University rankings by subject, UGA has improved or remained stable in 17 of the 21 disciplines in which it is ranked. In the top 50 for 3 disciplines, it ranks 33rd among the world's best universities in Geology, 35th in Geophysics, and 39th in Earth and Marine Sciences. More broadly, UGA has moved up in this international ranking to 70th place in 2023 in one of the five major fields evaluated: Natural Sciences.
