Ecological transition

Ecological transition is at the heart of the university's policies. Reducing the carbon impact of travel is a priority.
Fostering better air quality both outdoors and indoors is a necessity.

Through a policy committed to energy transition, the University Grenoble Alpes (UGA) is involved in the objectives of the climate plan of Grenoble Alpes Métropole, Valence Métropole, Chambéry and Annecy. The more than 800,000 sq. m. of heritage assets will have to meet national and international GHG reduction targets in a multi-year rehabilitation plan.

Greenhouse gas balance sheet

In accordance with the regulations in force, the university undertakes to establish a greenhouse gas balance sheet in connection with the lab 1.5 initiatives already carried out in several of the university's laboratories. It will concern all sectors of university activity. The UGA will ensure that it is consistent with the objectives of the metropolitan climate plan. Eventually, the UGA's GHG balance sheet will be associated jointly with the financial budget of the establishment in order to arbitrate the choices with carbon impact reduction criteria. Teleworking, in connection with the territory, will be able to be used to participate punctually as well as more durably to strongly reduce greenhouse gases as it was observed during the lockdown.

Mobility

The reduction of staff and studnets mobility contributes to the decrease of greenhouse gases and the spread of pollutants in the air by favouring public transport and cycling. Much remains to be done. A change in practices must promote alternatives to the use of planes and cars in order to favour teleconferences, teleworking and the use of soft modes in our daily journeys. The university will increase the installation of bicycle racks and promote the creation of secure bicycle garages. It will support the maintenance of staff bikes through "bike safety and repair" days. Carpooling will be encouraged in conjunction with the communes by setting up "carpooling reception" points.

Heritage

The AGU's heritage of more than 800,000 m² will have to comply with the national objectives and international commitments of Cop 21 . An approach to reduce overall energy consumption, expected in tertiary buildings, will be undertaken to comply with the regulation of - 40% in 2030, - 50% in 2040 and - 60% in 2050, and by increasing the share of energy from renewable sources to 30% by 2030, with a zero carbon target in 2050. In a multiannual programme, the university will give priority to rehabilitation rather than new construction.
