Requesting the use of your new first name or the use of a preferred last name

In order to improve the reception of students whose civil status change procedures have not been completed yet, any student has the possibility, upon written request addressed to the establishment, to be referred to the University of Grenoble Alpes by his new first name or to see the mention of his gender changed on several documents.

Which documents are concerned?

  • The student card.
  • The registration, call and attendance lists.
  • The minutes of deliberation.
  • The display of exam results.
  • Transcripts.
  • For the elections: the electoral lists, the electoral rolls and the lists of candidates.
To request a changement on your student email address, you have to make this request to the SOS student service address :

Warning : for technical reasons the login cannot be modified.

On the other hand, schooling-certificate, diploma-certificate and diploma can only be issued under the first name that appears on the civil status.

How can I request to use my new first name ?

If you want to use your new first name, you have to fill and sign the form downloadable below (for minor students, the form must be signed by a legal guardian) and send it to your enrollment department. The addition of your new first name on your registration or the modification of your initial first name or gender according to your civil status will then be carried out.

What about the use of a preferred last name ?

Any adult student may add to his family name, as a matter of practice, the last name of his parent who did not send him his on his civil status.

For a minor student, this modification is only possible with a written authorization of a legal guardian.

Warning: this procedure only concerns a filiation use name. Spouse names cannot be used as the main name at the university.

Which documents are concerned?

Unlike the "new first name", the preferred last name will appear on the official documents issued by the university :
  • Diploma
  • Diploma-certificate
  • Schooling-certificate
  • The registration, call and attendance lists.
  • The list of students authorized to compose

However, only the birth last name written on the student's ID documents will appear on the following documents issued by the university :

  • The student card.
  • Transcripts.
  • The minutes of deliberation.
  • The display of exam results.
  • For the elections: the electoral lists, the electoral rolls and the lists of candidates.

How can I request to use my preferred last name at University ?

If you want to use your preferred last name at UGA, you must contact your school department and provide the following supporting documents :
  • Copy of the civil status certificate.
  • Copy of the family booklet.
  • An ID (ID card or passport) on which your preferred name appears.
