UGA's results for the 2021 edition of this ranking (published two months before the release of the general Shanghai ranking) acknowledge, first of all, the excellence of the work carried out by our teams in our laboratories and research structures. They also demonstrate that the strategy pursued by the institution in terms of research and innovation policy in association with national research organizations is bearing fruit. This ambition must be sustained in order to continue to develop all disciplines, both in basic and applied research, to promote multidisciplinarity and to encourage team collaboration between laboratories and research centers.

The Shanghai Subject Ranking 2021 categorizes institutions according to five subjects - Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences - divided into 54 disciplines. The research performance indicators taken into account in this ranking are the number of scientific articles published by the institution in a given discipline, the impact of these articles and the number of citations of these scientific publications in other articles, the number of articles published in the top scientific journals, the international character of the published results (number of international teams involved) and the scientific prizes won by the scientists of the evaluated universities.
