SymposiumResearch, Partnerships, International
June 25, 2026 - June 26, 2026Saint-Martin-d'Hères - Domaine universitaire
Building on the success of the last inaugural Tokyo summit, the EU-Japan Digital Foundations Network brings together researchers, institutions, and industry partners from Europe and Japan in Brussels on 25 and 26 June 2026, around three key themes: artificial intelligence, semiconductors and quantum techniologies.
This joint initiative co-organized by Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and University of Tsukuba (UT) aims to strengthen strategic cooperation between the European Union and Japan in digital foundation science and technologies, fostering innovation, economic security, and talent development across academia, industry, and government stakeholders.
The two-day program combines plenary sessions, parallel scientific tracks, a matching session for new collaborative projects, EU funding opportunities presentation and network meetings.
Particular emphasis will be placed on:
• Artificial intelligence (AI for science, science for AI, security and digital governance)
• Next generation semiconductors and materials
• Quantum technology and quantum computing
• Sustainability and green digital practices.
Under the auspices of the Mission of Japan to EU, the symposium brings together a broad ecosystem of research organizations, universities, and industry players from both sides of the partnership. Current network members include European institutions such as CEA, CNRS, Inria, UDICE universities, and IMEC, as well as Japanese partners including AIST, Tohoku University, and Institute of Science Tokyo. The symposium also welcomes invited institutions such as Fraunhofer and RIKEN, alongside industry partners such as IBM Japan and STMicroelectronics.
