High-level athlete students at the Université Grenoble Alpes, Éric Perrot and Sophie Chauveau won two world titles and a bronze medal with the French team at the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.

Historic world championships! The last Biathlon World Championships took place from February 7 to 18, 2024 on the slopes of Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic. For two weeks, the Tricolores excelled and dominated the world of international biathlon. With 13 medals, including 6 titles, the French team beat its record set in Oslo in 2016 with 11 medals.

Like Marie Dorin-Habert, Anaïs Chevalier-Bouchet, Anaïs Bescond, Chloé Chevalier and Fabien Claude, all graduates of the Université Grenoble Alpes, UGA biathletes occupy a special place in French biathlon. At the 2024 World Championships, Éric Perrot and Sophie Chauveau followed in their elders' footsteps and once again contributed to the French team's success.

World title and bronze medal for Éric Perrot

Éric Perrot, a high-level athlete student in the SHIFT degree program in sports training, is continuing his ascent within the French team and on the international circuit. In Noce Mesto, the young French biathlon prodigy confirmed his brilliant end to the 2022-2023 season and his first individual World Cup podium.

Ten days later, he won bronze in the men's relay event with teammates Fabien Claude (a 2018 UGA graduate), Quentin Fillon Maillet and Emilien Jacquelin. Other highlights for the young UGA champion, three top 10 finishes: 4th in the sprint (and first Frenchman), 8th in the individual and 9th in the mass-start.

A world title and two top 4 finishes for Sophie Chauveau

Sophie Chauveau claimed the first podium of her career at the 2023-2024 World Cup in Oberhof in January 2024. A high-level athlete student in Applied Foreign Languages (English, German) degree, the young biathlete on the French team achieved two fine fourth-place finishes in the sprint and pursuit at these championships. Above all, she returned from the Czech Republic with a gold medal around her neck.

Inter'Val: a program for the winter sports elite

Éric Perrot and Sophie Chauveau benefit from the Inter'Val program, which enables them to combine their studies with sport at the highest international level. Offered in all study courses, this special support program was set up in 2004 in response to the severe constraints faced by winter sports specialists.

Reserved for athletes taking part in the biggest competitions, Inter'Val is based on a unique partnership in France between the UGA, the Agence nationale du sport (ANS) and 4 federations: the Fédération française de ski (FFS), the Fédération française des sports de glace (FFSG), the Fédération française de hockey sur glace (FFHG) and the Fédération française handisport (FFH).
