The OGRE thematic program is linked to master’s level training and aims to offer outstanding students aspiring to research careers a high-level education, including a research project spanning the two years of the master’s program and typically leading to a PhD.
This program builds on international master’s programs (MSIAM, CySec, ORCO), which cover all areas of digital sciences. In addition to these programs, students undertake a research project extending over the two years, during which they receive close supervision from a researcher or professor-researcher. This research project accounts for 12 ECTS credits over the two years of the master’s program.
The appeal of the OGRE program lies in its focus on optimization, a field with broad applications at the intersection of multiple disciplines. For this reason, the optimization courses we offer will lead to diverse applications in other fields through M1 and M2 projects.
OGRE Program activities
OGRE Seminars
Six seminars per year, held on Thursday afternoons, featuring researchers—primarily from applied fields—who will share their perspectives on the use of optimization in their domain. The main objective of these seminars is to introduce students to other disciplines. Additional disciplinary seminars on optimization methods in applied mathematics may also be offered.
OGREhack Summer School and Hackathon
This event will take place at the end of the academic year, after the M1 and M2 exams, and will be open to all interested M1 and M2 students. It could be combined with the OGRE Summer School, potentially attracting a broader audience.
OGRE Program Courses
The OGRE thematic program is centered on optimization. To this end, students in the program will be required to take two courses:
M1 – Numerical Optimization and OGRE Project (6 ECTS):
33 hours of lectures (CM) and 33 hours of practical sessions (TP), along with a supervised project. This course builds on the existing "Numerical Optimization" module in the M1 Applied Mathematics program and integrates a multidisciplinary, tutor-supervised project.
M2 – Mathematical Optimization and OGRE Project (6 ECTS):
36 hours of lectures (CM), 18 hours of practical sessions (TP), and a research-oriented project. This course is based on the existing "Mathematical Optimization" module in the M2 MSIAM program and includes a supervised project designed to help students transition into research.
