"Ma Thèse en 180 secondes" competition

A fiendish challenge to reinterpret science

Summarize years of research in 3 minutes, in simple and fun terms, all in front of an expert jury and a non-specialist audience: this is the challenge put to PhD students at Université Grenoble Alpes in the international competition "Ma thèse en 180 secondes" ("My thesis in 180 seconds").

The "Ma thèse en 180 secondes" competition is inspired by that of the University of Queensland, Three minute thesis (3MT®). The idea was then taken up in 2012 by Quebec’s ACFAS, who wanted to take the project to French-speaking countries.

Personal coaching

More than the almost theatrical performance it conjures, this competition gives PhD students the opportunity to reinforce their skills in popularizing scientific knowledge, allowing them to create new links with society and to increase the visibility of their research.

The Collège doctoral (Doctoral school) at Université Grenoble Alpes offers participants a personalized course to help prepare them for such a complex endeavor. This 15-hour course is led by Ludovic Lecordier, instructor for the spoken communication specialist Spontanez-vous.
