Students wishing to pursue a high-level artistic practice

For the 3rd consecutive year, Université Grenoble Alpes is offering facilities for students wishing to pursue a high-level artistic practice during their studies. Indeed, after high school, many students have to choose between continuing their artistic practice or continuing their studies.

It is often difficult to reconcile a demanding practice and higher education without jeopardizing one or the other of these activities. This is why UGA has set up the status of "High-Level Artists” (AHN) by offering support and adjustments to the curriculum.

The “High Level Artists” status

This status may also entitle the holder to specific facilities depending on the institution, such as the loan of rehearsal rooms. In the same way, AHN students will be able to apply for specific scholarships, according to the terms and conditions of attribution by institution.
This status aims to integrate students as well as possible within higher education institutions at the same time that they live their passion in the best possible conditions.
The aim of the curriculum adjustments is to make the student's schooling compatible:
  • with the pursuit of high-level studies in a recognised partner artistic training organisation outside the university: ESAD (Ecole Supérieure d’Art et de Design), Grenoble Conservatoire, Valence Conservatoire, etc.
  • or with the pursuit of a high level artistic project outside of the institutions covered by the agreement (the qualifier "high level" will then be delivered by the institution via the committee meeting to study the file) during his studies.
Students who wish to apply for the status of High Level Artist must fill in a file consisting of a letter of motivation and a description of the artistic project to be carried out in parallel with their studies. The files are examined by a commission made up of representatives of schools and universities, arts training organisations and, depending on the applications, artists identified as "experts". The commission may, if it wishes, propose an interview to the candidates.

This action is supported by IDEX Université Grenoble Alpes.

Grenoble INP Foundation and Université Grenoble Alpes Foundation have awarded 9 scholarships to high-level student artists or sportsmen and women in 2019.
A Student Artist Guide is currently being drawn up. This action is coordinated by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and the Conference of University Presidents (CPU).
