In addition to supporting interdisciplinarity, Idex "Université Grenoble Alpes" has set up instruments to support blue-skye projects, targeting new problems and innovative approaches for the benefit of scientific excellence and technological innovation.
This system is operated by the research departments (lien vers les pôles) within the framework of the Strategic Research Initiatives (IRS).
Since 2017, 220 emerging projects have been initiated for a total amount of €8.6 million, including c. 80 theses and the equivalent of 36 years of post-doctoral work.
This scheme is supported by IdEx Université Grenoble Alpes, UGA and Grenoble INP, Grenoble Alpes University's engineering and management institute.
Study of the composition of small dark bodies in the solar system using innovative spectro-photo-goniometric methods
An emerging project coordinated by Pierre Beck (IPAG) and funded by the IDEX call for proposals “Strategic Research Initiatives” –IRS. The project validated the performance of the instrument and successfully used it to determine the composition of silicates, metals, sulphides and organic materials in meteorites and interplanetary dust. The leverage effect is remarkable since this instrument puts IPAG in a strong position for the exploitation of new missions to small bodies in the solar system and the project is now continuing in the framework of the ERC Starting Grant Solarys project led by Pierre Beck.
