On 27 June 2023, the British education research company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) published the 20th edition of its global ranking of the world's best universities. This year, 35 French universities feature in the QS World University Rankings 2024 (three more than last year), out of the 1,500 higher education institutions evaluated worldwide in some 100 countries.

To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, and to reflect both the increase in available data and the changing priorities of students and society in general over the past two decades, QS has modified its rankings by introducing three new indicators: sustainability, employability and international research network, and by adjusting the weighting of some existing indicators.

A progression in the overall ranking in line with the thematic ranking

UGA's rise to 294^th place (+23) and 8^th place among French universities (+2) in this overall ranking is in line with that observed in the QS thematic rankings published last March. In the 2023 edition of the QS World university rankings by subject, which assesses the international reputation and scientific quality of higher education establishments worldwide, UGA progressed or remained stable in 17 of the 21 disciplines in which it is ranked.

In the top 50 for 3 disciplines, it ranks 33rd among the world's top universities in Geology, 35^th in Geophysics, and 39th in Earth and Marine Sciences.
