Installation of one of the animal sculptures atop Victoria Klotz’s artwork, which will be unveiled on October 19
Artist Victoria Klotz’s work, “Les Demoiselles des sables,” will be officially unveiled on Monday, October 19, at 5:30 p.m. This new, towering art installation can be seen in the heart of the campus arboretum.
Artist Victoria Klotz’s installation will be on display at the Ruffier-Lanche Arboretum, a hub of biodiversity on campus and the largest LPO nature reserve in the Isère department. It addresses climate change, as mountains are the areas of the planet that are warming the fastest—a phenomenon that exceeds the ability of animals and plants living at high altitudes to adapt.
Over the past 100 years, the Alps have already warmed by 2°C. The parameter changing most rapidly is snow. Over the past 50 years, the duration of annual snow cover has decreased by an average of 40 days, which has a significant impact on many species that depend on snow.
Changes in State and Equilibrium
Victoria Klotz reflects on her artistic project, which was funded as part of the "Opération Campus" initiative: "The Ladies of the Sands is an installation consisting of towers of sediment, topped by boulders on which animal sculptures are perched. This geological phenomenon speaks to us of movement, erosion, changes of state, and balance—such as that of the climate and its impact on animal species that depend on snow."
