Lecture titled "Design and ... Online Discussion Tools" by Tallulah Frappier
The “Design and…” series of events aims to showcase the work of designers who are helping to shape the world as it faces the challenges of social and ecological transitions.
Debate plays a major role in many theories of democracy: it is said to be the foundation of all legitimate decision-making. As a form of public speaking and an exchange of ideas among several people, one might think that debate depends solely on the individuals who engage in it. Yet, from the agora to the online forum, debate is regularly accompanied by physical elements and procedures that give concrete form to the explicit and implicit rules that structure it. It becomes a subject ripe for reflection by designers, who are in a position to ask how these objects related to debate reveal and shape it.
This conference will be moderated by Tallulah Frappier
She holds a research master’s degree in design from ENS Paris-Saclay, ENSCI-Les Ateliers, and Télécom Paris-Tech, and is now a doctoral student under a joint supervision arrangement between Paris 1 and Télécom Paris-Tech. Her research focuses on the structure of online discussion platforms and their analysis as design objects.
