Lecture on "Design and... Bioregionalism" by Mathias Rollot
The “Design and…” series of events aims to showcase the work of designers who are helping to shape the world as it faces the challenges of social and ecological transitions.

The concept of “bioregion” refers to the places where people who try to live in an environmentally friendly way (re)settle. The term “bioregionalism,” on the other hand, refers to a long-standing family of environmental movements that have taken on a variety of forms internationally over the past 50 years.

For about ten years now, at most, these perspectives on thought and action have been spreading somewhat more widely throughout the French-speaking world. We’re talking here about struggles, countercultural practices, trans-local alliances, revolutionary hopes, the imperative of degrowth, and ecofeminist (and, where possible, decolonial) perspectives. Many sectors of the design world have recently taken an interest in these ideas, for different reasons and with different goals.

Through a series of quizzes and a participatory mapping workshop, Mathias Rollot offers tools for exploring these bioregional worlds, both in theory and in practice. And let bioregional design follow—or not!
