Musical Lecture

Since the discovery of the first exoplanet orbiting a star other than our Sun a quarter of a century ago, several thousand other planets have been identified. Some are comparable in size to Earth and orbit at a distance from their star that suggests the possibility of liquid water on their surfaces. In the coming years, astronomers will attempt to detect signs of life on the closest exoplanets—those located within 20 light-years—which correspond to the few dozen nearest planetary systems. We’ll hear the reflections of a musician and an astronomer on planets and stars—and the feelings they evoke in each of them. A few questions will be addressed during the evening: Which exoplanets are closest to us? What approaches are currently being explored to search for signs of life there?

Xavier Delfosse is an astronomer at the Grenoble Institute of Planetology and Astrophysics (UGA/CNRS), a laboratory that is a member of the OSUG federation.
Laurence Ridoux is a pianist and composer. After winning a gold medal at the CNR in Versailles, Laurence explored the music of Frédéric Chopin and gave numerous recitals.

Goupile creates music that bridges the intimacy of a bedroom and the collective energy of the dance floor. Born from improvisations on her modular synth, her production blends electronic sounds with organic instruments, reflecting her passion for experimental and modal trance-inspired music. Following her debut EP, *La Mer Intérieure* (2023), and the single “Ce Jour Là,” she explores a balance between hypnotic repetition and improvisation on stage, immersing the listener in deeply intimate realms. Her second EP, *The Mood Has Changed*, was released in June 2026.

Kanto IDM – VJING / Grenoble
Kanto is a poetic audiovisual experience in which sounds and images interact in real time.
Blending electronica and abstract hip-hop, his rich basslines, driving beats, and mesmerizing melodies are born from a modular synthesizer. The generative visuals, drawing on glitch aesthetics and AI-generated textures, sketch out a constantly evolving 3D world. Kanto thus creates a meditative space where nature and technology, contemplation and euphoria converge.
