Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) has maintained its position in the top 150 of the Shanghai 2022 ranking of the world's best universities, published on 15 August. At the national level, UGA has also maintained its position as the 5th largest university in France and 1st university in the region, alongside the universities of Aix-Marseille and Strasbourg, after the four institutions in the Paris region: Université Paris Saclay, Sorbonne Université, PSL and Université de Paris.
After its strong performance in the Shanghai 2022 thematic ranking published last July, with 15 disciplines ranked in the world's top 100, UGA's latest results in the global ranking confirm the quality of the research conducted by the scientific teams within its research structures with its partner national research organizations. They demonstrate the relevance of UGA’s scientific policy implemented with its partners to enhance research and innovation that addresses societal and environmental issues, and the development of its territories.

Created in 2003 by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) distinguishes the top 1,000 higher education institutions from among more than 17,000 universities worldwide. It takes into account six criteria, including the number of Nobel Prize winners and Fields Medals among professors and former students, Highly Cited Researchers, and the number of publications in the scientific journals Nature and Science.
