Competition "Research as Art: capturing the diversity and beauty of research"
April 18, 2019 - May 8, 2019
The aim of this competition is to provide an outlet for researchers to communicate with and engage different audiences by their research through a striking image and captivating text.

Research as Art

It is an opportunity to reveal the hidden stories of research. The competition was founded by Professor Richard Johnston and  Swansea University Research Forum (SURF) to provide an outlet for researchers to communicate with and engage different audiences by their research through a striking image and captivating text.  The image is a hook to draw people in to discover the process, humanity, and emotion of research through written narratives.

Since 2009 this project has grown enormously, attracting over 600 stunning entries since its inception, representing every academic college.

Research as Art has reached over 50 million people worldwide, and has been featured in The Guardian, BBC, Scientific American, and many other platforms.  The exhibition has allowed researchers to showcase their research in public spaces and events including the Royal Institution London, the British Science Festival, Swansea Science Festival, American Association for the Advancement of Science Festival and annual meeting, University of Texas Houston and Austin, Life Centre Newcastle, Wales Government Offices, Swansea Science Festival and more.
