Lycoming College
Lycoming College
The Université Grenoble Alpes signs a new exchange partnership with Lycoming College (USA)
Founded in 1812, Lycoming is ranked as a Tier One liberal arts colleges in the USA. The liberal arts college is a quintessentially American style of education, focusing on quality teaching, small class sizes, and extensive student services. As can be seen from its high ranking, Lycoming excels at the liberal arts education model, and is justly proud of its low faculty to student ratio, personalized student attention, and education of the whole person for an informed and productive life.

A Shared Commitment to Global Education

Despite differences in size and style, Lycoming shares with UGA a profound commitment to global education and to diversity and equity in education. Lycoming enrolls students from 22 US states and 12 countries, an extraordinary international diversity for an institution enrolling 1,400 students per year. Indeed, Lycoming’s commitment to diversity is part of its educational philosophy: a belief that an ability to understand and communicate across cultures is part of a basic education.

Outgoing exchange students from the UGA will have the opportunity to benefit from this small but diverse community, receiving a high-quality liberal-arts style education in Lycoming’s classrooms while on exchange. The UGA is also delighted to have the chance to begin welcoming Lycoming’s students for a semester or a year abroad in Grenoble, where they will contribute to our already thriving international community.

Williamsport

Lycoming is located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, a historic American city, dating back to 1786. The population in 2014 was just under 30,000, making it a comfortable and charming place to live and visit for students and residents alike. The city is close to nature, and also provides a thriving arts community, including local theater, a symphony orchestra, and the civic ballet. Williamsport is also the home of another quintessentially American tradition: little league baseball, and hosts the annual Little League World Series. UGA students visiting during baseball season can also attend a game played by the adult team, the Williamsport Crosscutters.

Campus Life and International Student Services

Most students live on the college campus, which creates an atmosphere of community and also supports a rich array of extra- and co-curricular activities. Students can also take part in a variety of outdoor activities and trips such as wilderness survival, backpacking, whitewater kayaking, and cross-country skiing.

International students are greeted with a special student orientation designed to provide them with specific information and the opportunity to meet other students and integrate into the community before classes begin. International students may also be able to work on campus if they wish, and the college will even pick them up at the airport and help them move into their student residence.
