The Health Sector of the Université Grenoble Alpes organises the training of students in the different medical and surgical specialisms, midwifery as well as the three pharmacy specialisms: hospital pharmacy, industrial pharmacy and community pharmacy. The Faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy stand out thanks to their nationally recognised educational innovations, including APP (problem-based medical education), tutoring and "reverse" education.

In addition to the traditional pharmaceutical and medical specialisms, the Health Sector also offers a range of Bachelor's- and Master's-level courses to prepare future professionals in biomedical research and health industries:

  • Vocational Bachelor's degree in Biotechnologies, Cosmetics and Agri-foodstuff;
  • Master's degree in Health and Medicine Engineering;
  • Master's degree in BioHealth Computing. Several of these Masters courses open the door to doctoral studies and prepare students for careers in health research, either students who have completed a scientific Bachelor's degree or as a double degree for students of Medicine and Pharmacy.
The Health Sector also works in close partnership with the midwifery school as well as different health care courses (nursing schools, masseur-physiotherapists and radiology technicians for example), to give these training courses a more university-like nature.

The Faculty of Medicine's hospital-university research professors develop fundamental, translational and clinical research topics, around many subjects, in particular:

  • Chronic illnesses and cancer
  • Neurological and neuromuscular diseases
  • Technologies for health
  • Sleep apnea syndrome and intermittent hypoxia
The main facilities supporting these research domains are the following partners:

  • Albert Bonniot Institute (IAB)
  • Neurosciences Institute (GIN)
  • TIMC-IMAG Laboratory
  • Hypoxia-pathophysiology (HP2)
  • Laboratoire Radiopharmaceutiques Biocliniques (LRB, UMR UGA-INSERM 1039)

The Health Sector Faculties support different scientific events such as the Scientific Days for Medicines and the Medical Research Days.

Further information

The Grenoble Health Sector is leading the national tablet-based examination system which now plays a key role in health education. It is now used by all French Faculties of Medicine and, since June 2016, has helped to organise electronic national medical examinations (ECNI), previously called concours d’internat.

To reinforce this innovative digital education, a new regional simulation centre is being reviewed and should open its doors during the 2017 back-to-school season.
