Tour Sustainable Development
October 3, 2026Greater Grenoble Area, La Tronche
As part of this year’s Science Festival, themed “Saveurs Savantes,” come discover the Dominique Villars Botanical Garden in the heart of the health complex and explore its medicinal and edible plants.
Set within the Dominique Villars University Garden, which is affiliated with the faculties of medicine and pharmacy at theUniversité Grenoble Alpes, this tour offers an exploration of medicinal and edible plants, at the intersection of nutritional and therapeutic uses.
Certain botanical families, such as the Apiaceae (fennel, parsley, cumin), are particularly illustrative of this dual function, with species that are widely used in food while also possessing recognized pharmacological properties. Other common plants, such as the stinging nettle, will be discussed in terms of their traditional uses and their constituents of interest.
Special attention will be paid to the risk of confusion with morphologically similar toxic species, particularly between wild garlic and colchicum, or between black locust and laburnum.
The material will be reexamined from the perspective of pharmacognosy and the sensible use of plants, in light of current scientific knowledge.
