Selected for the French national team to compete in the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games, Arthur Bauchet, Jordan Broisin, Florian Michelon, and Aurélie Richard are among the 51 students and recent graduates from theUniversité Grenoble Alpes who participated in the Milan-Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Eleven days after the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Italy, these young champions carried the torch for the French team and the UGA “delegation,” led by Jordan Broisin, who served as flag bearer for the French athletes alongside Cécile Hernandez.

Following the three medals and outstanding performances by their teammates at the Olympic Games (learn more), the UGA athletes shone once again from March 6 to 15, 2026, on the slopes of Cortina and Tesero. They brought home 8 of the French team’s 12 medals!

Arthur Bauchet Wins Gold in Giant Slalom and Combined

With four Paralympic silver medals from the 2018 PyeongChang Games, three Olympic gold medals, and a bronze medal from the 2022 Beijing Games, Arthur Bauchet, a physics major, had already won nearly everything at the Games except a gold medal in giant slalom, his favorite discipline.

With his thumb in a cast following his fall in the super-G, Arthur Bauchet broke the Friday the 13th curse by winning the giant slalom in Cortina. This Paralympic title adds to the one he won in the Alpine combined event and a superb silver medal in the downhill.
Having won his eighth consecutive World Cup Crystal Globe just before the start of these Games, Arthur Bauchet returns from his campaign in Italy with two gold medals and one silver.

Aurélie Richard in "Power Four" Mode

Aurélie Richard, a first-year student in the hybrid STAPS-SHIFT program (UFR STAPS - H3S Faculty), competed in her first Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina. It was a debut and a spectacular success, as she won four medals in five races.

At just 20 years old, Aurélie Richard won three silver medals at the Paralympics in downhill, super-G, and alpine combined. Although she finished just off the podium in slalom with a^{5th-place finish}, the young champion from the French team added a bronze medal in giant slalom to her Paralympic medal count.

Florian Michelon Wins Bronze, and Jordan Broisin Just Misses the Podium

A top-level biathlete, Florian Michelon hung up his rifle when he moved up to the senior ranks and, during the 2022–2023 season, became Antony Chalençon’s guide in para Nordic skiing. The duo has already won four silver medals at the World Championships.

A second-year master’s student in civil engineering, specializing in urban engineering (UFR PhITEM—Faculty of Sciences), Florian Michelon competed in his very first Games in Milan-Cortina. In the competition’s final event, he guided Anthony Chalençon to a bronze medal in the 20-kilometer cross-country skiing race. The duo also achieved four top-10 finishes in para biathlon and para cross-country skiing in Italy.

A member of the French para alpine skiing team since 2015, 2023 world slalom runner-up, and a multiple World Cup medalist, Jordan Broisin was competing in his third Paralympic Games.

A 2016 graduate of the Phelma engineering school (Grenoble INP - UGA) and holder of a master’s degree in business administration (Grenoble IAE - INP, UGA) in 2017, Jordan Broisin delivered strong performances at these Games, finishing^5th in the super-G,^6th in the giant slalom, and^7th in the slalom.

Inter’Val: A Program for the Elite of Winter Sports

To balance their studies with competing at the highest international level, all UGA students participating in the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics benefit from the Inter’Val system. Established in 2004 to address the significant challenges faced by winter sports athletes, this specialized support program is reserved for athletes competing in the most prestigious international competitions.

Offered in all fields of study, Inter’Val is based on a partnership—unique in France—between the UGA and the National Sports Agency (ANS) and 5 federations: the French Ski Federation (FFS), the French Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (FFME), the French Ice Sports Federation (FFSG), the French Ice Hockey Federation (FFHG) and the French Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities (FFH).

This year, of the 770 high-level student-athletes supported by the UGA in their dual academic and athletic pursuits, 115 are benefiting from the Inter’Val support program. The success of this leading support program is also reflected in the 11 UGA graduates who are continuing their athletic careers at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics while having secured their professional futures.
