Organized under the auspices of the French University Sports Federation (FFSU), the latest edition of the French Collegiate Swimming Championships—featuring both individual and team events—brought together nearly 600 swimmers from the 1st^er on April 3, 2026, in Villefranche-sur-Saône (Rhône).

For this high-level event, 33 UGA students (21 of whom are members of the Galp38 club, including 10 in the Elite group) competed in the pools of the Beaujolais region’s capital. These top-level athletes proudly represented their university, achieving results that lived up to the high expectations set for this competition.

Four French team championship titles

In the team events, the UGA delegation stood out in particular, winning no fewer than 6 medals (4 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze) and setting three French collegiate records in the process!

"A high level of performance, with numerous "personal bests," and a collective energy that led to victories in 4 out of 6 possible relays", said Lionel Rouan, the team's coach and head of swimming activities at the UGA's SUAPS.


The UGA swimmers distinguished themselves by winning two gold medals: one in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay (a French university record) and one in the 4x50-meter medley relay.

Thanks to the performances of the swimmers on the team across all events in this championship, the UGA women’s team was crowned French collegiate champions for the second consecutive year!


In the mixed events, the UGA champions took the top spot on the podium twice: in the 6x100-meter individual medley relay and in the 12x50-meter freestyle relay, setting two French collegiate records.

The UGA swimmers added two medals to their already impressive tally by winning silver in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay and bronze in the 4x50-meter medley relay.

Sixteen medals in the individual events

The UGA swimmers returned from the pools in Villefranche-sur-Saône with sixteen individual medals around their necks (3 gold, 5 silver, and 7 bronze). These individual performances matched the team’s results and once again placed UGA among the top three universities in France, alongside Toulouse and Lyon.


The boys won no fewer than 10 medals, including two titles, at this championship.
Mohammed-Yassine Ben Abbes won gold in the 200-meter freestyle and silver in the 100-meter backstroke (plus three medals in the relays). Adam Margirier won gold in the 100-meter breaststroke (plus one medal in the relays). Louis Godefroid won silver in the 100-meter freestyle and the 100-meter butterfly, and bronze in the 50-meter freestyle (plus four medals in the relays). Evan Galle-Michon won silver in the individual medley, bronze in the 200-meter freestyle and the 50-meter backstroke (plus four medals in the relays). Idris Amrouch-Chantepie won bronze in the 50-meter breaststroke (plus one medal in the relays).

The girls also performed well in this competition, winning 6 medals, including one gold.
Manon Domingeon won gold in the 100-meter backstroke and bronze in the 50-meter backstroke (plus four medals in the relays). Valentine Leclercq won silver in the 200-meter freestyle and bronze in the 100-meter freestyle (plus three medals in the relays). Anna Daubanes Ramus won silver in the 50-meter breaststroke (plus three medals in the relays). Lola Malet won bronze in the 100-meter backstroke (plus four medals in the relays).
