Impermanence: Architecture, Urban Planning, Geography, and Society Put to the Test
Conference
October 22, 2026 – October 23, 2026Saint-Martin-d'Hères - University Campus
A transdisciplinary symposium co-organized by MSH-Alpes, ENSAG, AE&CC, Labex Architectures, and LRA - ENSAT.
This international and interdisciplinary conference invites researchers, artists, practitioners, and professionals in the field of space to explore the concept of impermanence as a constitutive—rather than exceptional or accidental—condition of all inhabited spaces, on every scale, from the landscape to the building. Building on the momentum of the "Rythmologies" International Seminar (2021)[1] which is based on theeponymous research area[2], it proposes shifting the focus away from rhythm to explore the contrasts between thought and action, control and anticipation, predictions and possibilities. The discussion will be organized over two days: first, understanding impermanence (experiences, concepts, representations); then, dealing with impermanence (places, practices, professional approaches).
