END'26: The European Symposium on Sustainable Electronics and Digital Technology Comes to Grenoble
ConferenceResearch
December 14, 2026 – December 15, 2026Grenoble - Presqu'île
On December 14 and 15, 2026, the Grenoble Science Peninsula will host the END'26 European Symposium (EU Symposium for Digital & Electronics Sustainable Technologies). Expanded to a European scale for this third edition, the event brings together researchers, industry professionals, and students to address the challenges of eco-innovation, semiconductors, and sustainable digital technologies.Université Grenoble Alpes , and its research ecosystem play a leading role in this event.
Europe has the expertise and skills needed to promote a more responsible digital sector (frugality, regulation, ethics) capable of creating high-quality jobs. However, mastering data is just as crucial as mastering materials and energy to ensure the functionality and sustainability of disruptive digital components and integrated circuits. More sustainable integrated hardware and software solutions will be discussed at this third edition of the END symposium, dedicated to information and communication technologies (ICT).
The symposium’s manifesto argues that Europe’s reindustrialization and digital sovereignty must be based on eco-design and sustainability throughout the entire value chain (from hardware components to software). It warns against a one-size-fits-all model focused on the relentless pursuit of performance—which leads to obsolescence, overconsumption, and dependencies—and advocates for moderation and the early assessment of environmental and societal impacts.
A strong commitment to science by UGA and its ecosystem
As an event recognized under the "Grenoble, European Capital of Innovation" initiative, the END'26 symposium benefits from the active support of theUniversité Grenoble Alpes , and its key institutions. The UGA is fully involved through the LabEx Microelectronics program as well as its partner research laboratories at the Polygone Scientifique (CEA, CNRS, IRT Nanoelec). This institutional support illustrates the university’s strong commitment to developing hardware and software solutions with low environmental impact in the digital sector.
A rich program
The symposium is organized around three complementary components:
Student Hackathon (December 11–13): Ahead of the conference, a hackathon for students will help foster innovative projects in the field of digital sustainability.
Tutorial Day (Monday, December 14): Designed for R&D managers, researchers, professionals, and students, this free event (held both on-site and online) will feature training sessions and case studies on eco-design tools and methodologies in electronics and semiconductors.
Scientific & Industrial Symposium (Tuesday, December 15): The main event will feature presentations and scientific discussions in English (under the patronage of the IEEE EDS and EPS societies) focusing on key challenges in responsible digital technology (high-performance computing, eco-efficient AI, sensors, and energy management).
An industrialist will find plenty of reasons to participate in the symposium, either by submitting a paper proposal or by associating their brand with the event through sponsorship. Learn more
An academic will find plenty of reasons to submit an abstract for review by our international panel of scientists. Learn more
