Diffuse Pollution in Aquatic Environments and Its Impacts on Organisms: Emerging Pollutants and New Concepts
Ecotoxicology is a relatively new interdisciplinary science (formalized in the late 1960s) that lies at the intersection of environmental chemistry, ecology, physiology, and toxicology. It aims to understand the fate of contaminants resulting from human activities in the environment, their effects on organisms at various scales, and their impacts on ecosystem functioning. In a context of widespread contamination and the proliferation of emerging pollutants, ecotoxicology plays a key role in assessing risks to the
biodiversity and ecological functions, and to better understand the capacity of ecosystems to cope with these pressures
The AnaEE France 2026 Summer School offers a training program focused on aquatic ecotoxicology, combining theoretical, experimental, and applied approaches. It is structured around four main themes:
Ecodynamics of Pollutants in the Environment;
Transfers and accumulation within organisms;
Effects on organisms and communities (biological responses and realistic exposures);
Modeling biotic responses.
The program is based on an interactive format that combines lectures, hands-on exercises, tutorials, and field trips.
Through this summer school, participants will:
understand the mechanisms of transfer and exposure to contaminants;
implement experimental approaches in aquatic ecotoxicology;
explore biomonitoring methods under realistic conditions;
gain an introduction to toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics;
analyze and model ecotoxicological data, particularly using tools such as R.
Participants staying on site (dormitory rooms for 2 to 8 people)
Accommodation and training expenses covered (meals included from Monday evening through Friday at noon)
Participants are responsible for transportation costs to Lautaret (to get to Lautaret: take the bus from the Grenoble bus station; Zou Express Line 55, LE MONETIER-Col du Lautaret stop)
Target Audience
This training program is at the doctoral level and is intended for doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career researchers, as well as engineers working on the AnaEE France platforms. Candidates should be interested in learning approaches and methods for studying diffuse contamination in the environment. For doctoral students, written certificates will be provided to allow you to have the training recognized by your doctoral schools.
Prerequisites
This course requires a basic understanding of chemistry and aquatic biology. Beginners in ecotoxicology are welcome. A basic understanding of the R software is required for the modeling section.
Villar-d'Arène - Lautaret Garden Registration fees and on-site expenses (meals and lodging) are covered. Participants are responsible for their own transportation costs to Lautaret.
