Founded in 1909, the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore is one of India’s most prestigious scientific institutions. IIT Delhi, for its part, is among the country’s most renowned technology institutions and plays a central role in training top-tier engineers, researchers, and innovators.
By expanding its collaborations with these two partners, UGA is strengthening its ability to work alongside world-class institutions in scientific and technological fields critical to the future: artificial intelligence, quantum science, semiconductors, energy, health, materials, advanced technologies, and socio-environmental transitions.
These collaborations will also foster interdisciplinary exchanges between the experimental sciences, engineering, health, the formal sciences, and the humanities and social sciences. They will make international cooperation a driving force for scientific discovery, intercultural exchange, education, and innovation for the UGA communities.
These agreements come amid a significantly revitalized Franco-Indian relationship. In February 2026, France and India elevated their relationship to the status of a “Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” and launched the Franco-Indian Year of Innovation. The new “Roadmap for Innovation 2030” makes trustworthy AI a central pillar of cooperation between the two countries and reaffirms the goal of welcoming 30,000 Indian students to France by 2030.
This context aligns with a major scientific reality: India currently ranks third in the world on the Stanford Index of Artificial Intelligence Vitality, behind the United States and China. These indicators point to rapidly growing Indian research, a considerable talent pool, and world-class scientific and technological institutions.
With these two agreements, theUniversité Grenoble Alpes is consolidating its position within major international networks for research, education, and innovation, drawing on more than 1,200 partnerships in 150 countries in the fields of research and education.
These agreements extend the university’s commitment to strategic scientific collaborations and establish the Indo-Pacific as a key focus of its internationalization efforts—from Taiwan to Singapore, from Australia to Japan, and now India.
