A real estate project to benefit the education policy of health professionals.

Context

This real estate project is the fruition of a number of years of development, aiming to bring the seven vocational schools of the university teaching hospital (CHU) together on one site: nurses, midwives, radiographers, health care managers, physiotherapists, paediatric nurses and nurses specialising in anaesthetics. The aim is also to supplement the resources for the first three years of medicine and pharmacy. The operation is part of the medical studies' reform and the aim to progressively make the training sectors for health professionals more university-like.

The new building

The building will be at the centre of the university's Saint Martin d'Hères area on the central east-west line; reinforcing this line is one of the main guidelines of the blueprint for the development of this area. Given its importance, the project is a decisive part of the consolidation of the western area of the line. It will have a surface area of 9,600 m² spread over four floors and will be able to welcome over 2,500 students and staff at one time. Small courtyards situated by the east and west gable ends will give access to the building, acting as an entrance and exit linked by an internal route crossing the building lengthways.

Sustainable development objectives

This project is guided by the sustainable development objectives of the Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) for its built assets, proposing a bioclimatic design and reliance on renewable energies.

Completion date

The building will be completed at the beginning of 2018.

Project partners

Carried out jointly by the CHU and the UGA, the construction is being financed by the 13th planning agreement between the State and the region (CPER) and the "Campus Grenoble université de l’innovation" operation. Thus, up to €31.35 million is being provided by the State, the Rhone-Alpes Auvergne region, Grenoble Métropole and the city of Grenoble with a contribution of equity for the CHU.

The architectural project is the work of the Chabannes and partners agency, the representative of the engineering team.
