This public-private partnership real estate operation for the humanities and social science courses is under way.

Context


This real estate project is in the St Martin d’Hères university area and will involve the complete refurbishment of the Humanities and Social Science Teaching and Research Department (UFR SHS) and the construction of three new buildings: one building for the Faculty of Law, one building for shared teaching facilities and one cross-disciplinary performance space.

Sustainable development objectives


With regard to technical and environmental performance, energy consumption will be 20% lower than that enforced by the current heat regulations, thanks to good insulation of their casing (insulating from the outside), green (plant-covered) roofs and very efficient equipment (heat retrieval from the air extracted for ventilation and controlling air flows according to occupancy, for example). In terms of energy sources for heating and cooling, the three buildings will be connected to the district heating network and will be cooled by using geothermics (groundwater).

Completion


Work should start from April 2016 and the buildings' completion dates will be staggered between May 2017 and November 2018, helping to transition from the old buildings which no longer respond to either functional needs or energy standards to efficient buildings incorporating educational and work spaces adapted to the new uses of higher education.

Partners


This is the last on-going "PPP" (public-private partnership) operation of Plan Campus de Grenoble – the contract was signed in July 2015 between COMUE and the group represented by the FAYAT building company (ranked fourth in the building and construction sector in France), for an investment amount of 40 million euros including tax.

Amongst others, the group includes the PATRIARCHE (Grenoble) architecture firm and COFELY INEO and COFELY AXIMA maintenance companies. The latter companies will ensure the buildings' maintenance for 25 years.
