With 3,000 research professors, 14 laboratories of excellence (LABEX), facilities of excellence (EQUIPEX) and 270 families of patents filed, Grenoble is one of the busiest research ecosystems in France.
Research is organised across six clusters of laboratories and centres on the Université Grenoble Alpes Community site:

  • Mathematics, Science and Information & Communications Technology (MSTIC).
  • Physics, Engineering and Materials (PEM).
  • Particle physics, Astrophysics, Geosciences, the Environment and Ecology (PAGE).
  • Chemistry, Biology and Health (CBS).
  • Social Sciences (PSS)
  • Art, Literature, Languages, Humanities, Cognitive and Social Sciences (ALLSHCS).
The long-serving strategy for developing pooled research & technology platforms open to technological and cultural transfer is tied in with the site's European and international infrastructure (ESRF, ILL, EMBL, IRAM, GHMFL). Strategic international collaboration can be forged through these platforms.

There is a team at the Université Grenoble Alpes dedicated to researchers and research structures for:

  • Seeking out funding for research projects, whether on an international, national or regional scale, through the various existing schemes.
  • Submitting applications to calls for proposals.
  • Setting up industrial or academic partnerships.
  • Allocating funding that is received.
  • Protecting, utilising and transferring research findings.
