The Language Centre at the Université Grenoble Alpes teaches courses in over 20 languages for different student categories.
These courses are available to students on the Grenoble campuses (Université Grenoble Alpes and other institutions), sixth-form students or trainees undergoing continuing education in the region of Grenoble.
Placement and certificationsModules are organised on the basis of proficiency groups according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). You have to take a placement test to determine which group you are best suited to. To give you the very best learning experience, groups are formed so as to encourage interaction and communication. What's more, depending on your needs, a wide range of programmes for taking in your own time, with guidance or tutoring is available at the Independent Learning Centre (CAA) and/or online.
Several language certifications are available, including CLES, TOEFL®, TOEIC® and IELTS®.
Please check the conditions for registration with the Language Centre.
StudentsLanguage teaching during your Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or PhD is broken down as follows:
- Core modules: organised across faculties, these focus on the speciality language, in line with the course objectives.
- Cross-Disciplinary Elective Modules (ETC): these are non-subject-related modules, open to all students enrolled at the Université Grenoble Alpes. Language lessons are available in this context (the list of available lessons is provided by your training & research unit/UFR).
Improving your language skills requires assiduity and revision. We therefore recommend that you take 48 hours of language lessons per year, which amounts to one module each semester.
