Activities

In the towns of Bonneville, Chambéry, Grenoble and Valence, the Grenoble Academy's ÉSPÉ prepares the principal educational advisers and teachers of tomorrow, as well as students going into other careers related to education and those wanting to develop their skills in the fields of teaching, education and training.

Programs

As part of the Université Grenoble Alpes, in partnership with the Université Savoie Mont Blanc, the ÉSPÉ provides a Master's degree in MEEF (Careers in Teaching, Education and Training), following two years of post-Bachelor-degree studies. This Master's degree offers four specialisms: primary level (PE), secondary level (SD), educational supervision (EE) and training engineering and practices (PIF).

In the first year of the PE, SD and EE Masters, students prepare for recruitment competitions to become teachers and educational staff (primary school teachers, secondary school and college teachers, teachers at vocational colleges and principal educational advisers). The civil-servant trainees who are successful in the competition, pass the first year of their Master's degree and do not have another Masters go into the second year of the Masters in MEEF to continue their training. This year is work-linked – half the time is spent teaching pupils and the other half is spent training at the ÉSPÉ. The civil-servant trainees who are successful in the competition and already have a Masters or equivalent qualification, follow a course which is adapted to their previous curriculum as part of a university diploma (DU). This is also work-linked and the content of the training is defined in agreement with the employer, according to guidelines set out by the LEA chaired by the Chief Education Officer.

The civil-servant trainees who are successful in the competition called the 3rd track, and are exempt from a qualification, follow training adapted to their needs as part of a work-linked university diploma. The PIF specialism puts forward three routes open to continuing education, two of which are also accessible to students who are doing their initial training (access information on the PIF specialism). In collaboration with the Grenoble LEA and the DSDEN (Directorates of the Départemental National Education Services), the ÉSPÉ organises continuing education activities for teachers, especially in Disability and Educational Adaptation (ASH). What's more, the UGA organises continuing professional development courses which do not result in a diploma within the ÉSPÉ. These are only for occupational retraining and aim to prepare teachers for CRPE (primary school teacher) tests: CoMéPÉ.

Research

The Master's degree in MEEF dedicated to initial teacher training are, as with all of our Master's specialisms, supported by the university's laboratories in conjunction with the relevant teaching disciplines and educational issues. They benefit from the scientific support of laboratories dealing with issues linked to education. These laboratories and their affiliated research professors participate in the courses offered directly, in particular by supervising training in research and research studies as part of training models. Methodological contributions and content referencing existing research are presented in the first year of the Master's (M1) and a Master’s thesis focusing on didactic, educational or pedagogical issues is written in second year of the Master's (M2).

Partnerships

The organisation and content of teaching the different elements of these courses rely on ongoing collaboration between university partners and practitioners in the field. Teachers, master trainers, management staff, inspectors and representatives from the school's partner associations and territorial authorities are involved in the Masters in MEEF.
